Leawood is an independent city in Johnson County, Kansas, about 10 miles southwest of downtown Kansas City, with its eastern border running along the Kansas–Missouri state line. The city traces its roots to the 1920s, when landowner Oscar G. Lee began developing the area; the Kroh Brothers launched a major housing development in 1948, the same year Leawood formally incorporated. Today it's one of the most affluent suburbs in the metro, with a median household income above $156,000 and a population of roughly 33,900 (2020 Census).
