Overview

Prairie Village is an independent incorporated city in Johnson County, Kansas — distinct from, and bordering, Overland Park and Leawood. It was platted in 1941 by developer J.C. Nichols (the developer behind Kansas City's Country Club Plaza) and incorporated in 1951. In 1949, the National Association of Home Builders recognized it as the best-planned community in America. The city covers about 6.2 square miles and had a 2020 Census population of 22,957.
