William B. Strang Jr. founded the city in 1905 along an old military roadway that is now its thoroughfare. By 1960, Overland Park was dubbed a “city of first-class” and has grown exponentially since. In 2008, an annexation attempt by Overland Park caused state legislators to amend state laws concerning annexations to require a majority vote.
 
Overland Park is home to many architectural styles, including Craftsman and Modern, ranging from mid $200,000s to upwards of a million dollars in price. Ranch-style and split-level homes are also popular in the area.
